"Group laws on n-categories and the homology of Eilenberg-Mac Lane spaces"

Abstract: A basic problem in algebraic topology is understanding the relation between the homology and homotopy groups of a given space. Such a relation cannot be simple, since the homotopy groups of the n-sphere $S^n$, a space whose integral homology is concentrated in degree n, is not yet completely known. Another approach to this relation consists in studying the homology of the Eilenberg-Mac Lane spaces K(A,n), which are the spaces whose only non-trivial homotopy group is the $n$-th one, with value a given abelian group A.

I will discuss some recent results in this direction, beyond the classical work of H. Cartan, and consequences for the properties of group laws on higher categories.
